Business Analysis

Most of you are experts in your own fields and we are NOT here to tell you how to run your business, or increase advertising and reduce costs. In order to understand what a Business Analysis is let's first look at the following three terms and their definitions.

A Business Consultant starts at the top of the organization working with the management in order to understand the business objectives and come up with a strategic plan of actions. Generally focusing on reducing costs, increasing market share and profit margins, etc.

A Business Analyst lies in between the two, focusing on; the interaction of customers, partners, suppliers and the chain of manual processes; in order to implement processes that will improve general operation all the way to management tasks.

A System Analyst on the other hand is mainly involved in planning and implementing the IT solution that will produce the desired objectives focusing on screen designs, hardware requirement and implementation, system documentation and so on.

The past decade has seen a rise in the software packages becoming the mainstream applications used by most companies. Software packages however have either got their limitations or in some cases the user knowledge of the software package is the limiting factor. The effect is generally where a company uses a mismatch of word processing and spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Office to do their accounting, invoicing, client management and even work schedule. While in most cases it might be sufficient in the majority of the cases it leaves ample opportunity for error and inaccuracy in the long run with little possibility to use the data for producing management reports or allowing for proper monitoring or maintenance of work flow.
